RuralCoop Executive Director Represents Cooperatives Europe at the FAO Regional Rural Youth Forum

Budapest, Hungary – June 13, 2025

We are pleased to share that Mariam Gabrielyan, Executive Director of the RuralCoop Support Foundation and Board Member of Cooperatives Europe, was invited to represent Cooperatives Europe at the Second Regional Rural Youth Forum for Europe and Central Asia, organized by FAO. The Forum took place from June 11 to 13, 2025, in Budapest in a hybrid format, bringing together rural youth, policymakers, development partners, and civil society from across the region.

As an invited speaker, Mariam Gabrielyan presented the advantages of the cooperative model, highlighting how cooperation supports young farmers, strengthens rural economies, and fosters inclusive and sustainable development. Drawing on Armenia’s experience, she emphasized the role of cooperatives in creating opportunities for youth in agriculture, improving access to resources, and encouraging innovation in rural communities.

“The engagement of youth is essential for revitalizing rural areas and ensuring the future of agriculture,” said Mariam Gabrielyan. “Cooperatives provide a practical and values-based model that empowers young people to take leadership, build resilient livelihoods, and shape the future of their communities.”

The Forum focused on key issues facing rural youth, including access to land, knowledge, employment, and the generational renewal of family farming. By contributing to these discussions, Mariam reinforced Cooperatives Europe’s commitment to supporting young people across the Europe.

We thank FAO for organizing this important platform and extend our appreciation to all participants dedicated to strengthening the voice of rural youth. RuralCoop remains committed to advancing the cooperative model in Armenia and beyond, ensuring that young people have the tools and support they need to drive positive change.
